FAQ-1601 How to Schedule Auto Restart of IP Call Capture

QUESTION
Is it possible to add a script to make sure the Advanced IP Data Logger doesn't lose connection with my phone system?

ANSWER
If any of the network equipment between your phone system sending IP Call Records and the PC collecting them loses power during the day the Advanced IP Data Logger could lose connection with your PC and stop logging telephone calls.  Some end users never have this problem, and a few see this frequently.   Usually it isn't a problem because most IP phone systems buffer call data and the IP Capture Utility restarts itself each morning at 6am.

However, in cases where you have more call records in a day than your phone system can buffer, or where this happens frequently you could possibly lose call records.

To keep this from happening you can add the following batch file to your system.  Here is what you need to do.

  1. Create the batch file shown below and name it RESTART_IP CAPTURE.BAT
  2. Create a scheduled task to run the batch file and set it to run each morning at 6am and to repeat every 4 hours for 12 hours.

This will keep you from losing connection with your phone system and make the IP capture more reliable in situations where the phone system consistently loses connection with the capture PC.

BATCH FILE TO CREATE

File Name:  restart_ip_capture.bat

Directory:  Your Call Accounting Main Directory  (c:\ca20xx where xx - version)

File Contents:

          NET STOP AdvTCPIPDataLogger
          NET START AdvTCPIPDataLogger
