FAQ 1007 How to Edit Raw Logs and Current Call Database

QUESTION

How do I look at and/or edit the raw call detail and processed call records.

CAUTION

If you save any changes made while editing either the raw or processed data files, you need to be careful that you do not change any file formats. If you do, you could damage the file so that it is unusable in the future. Be careful that any changes you make do not affect the structure of the file. Also, any changes made to the raw data file are unrecoverable.

EDIT/VIEW RAW DATA

Depending on how you capture the call records from your phone system, your raw call logs will be stored in one of the following directories:

Serial Logs

c:\ca20xx\log_serial

IP Logs

c:\ca20xx\log_ip

FTP Logs

c:\ca20xx\log_ftp

VOIP Logs

c:\ca20xx\log_wireshark

These files are stored in plain ASCII format and can be edited from any text editor. To edit them from the Comm One Toolbox issue the following command and then select the log you want to edit from the directory shown above.

        MODIFY COMMAND ?

If you change the layout of the log file, you may not be able to process the log into the call accounting because of the file change. This feature is usually used just to look up a particular call in the raw data.

EDIT/VIEW PROCESSED DATA

Processed data is stored in the current file PLM_CA.DBF located in the current directory. To edit this file, load the toolbox module and type the following commands:

  1. CLOSE DATABASES
  2. USE PLM_CA.DBF
  3. BROWSE NORMAL

When you are complete press CTRL-W to save your changes and exit.

(Where xx = the version. Example: ca2017 for the 2017 version)
